Abstract

This research aimed to describe what factors can increase the reading motivation of santri at Madrasah Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Research method ised the descriptive approach by using research subject focused on key informan. The data collecting used the technique of participant observation, interview and document study. The technique of data analysis in this research is by using data reduction, data display, verivication and conclusion. The result of this research could be know that santri reading motivation can be increased through two ways, that is intrinsic factor and extrinsic factor. The intrinsic factor contains the motivation and the willing of santri himself. The extrinsic factor includes the external factor which supports and arouses the santri reading motivation to increase their knowledge. Through this research also could be found the obstacles and solutions of the research object. Recommendation that the writer can suggest is, the librarians and staff should give greater attention towards the santris in operating computer facilities. Through which the applying of the computer can reach the affective goals. For the PUSTAMA programs and PoLi the researcher recommendation to update the data management in system of “borrowing and returning” the books and the documents of library. By this policy we can expect the responsibility of borrowers when there is something loses or broken. Last but not least, the library can jold some interesting programs that can arouse the motivation and concern among the santris.
